OCEAN FALLS REPORT by George Nairn
Trap and Skeet Club
On May 21st, 1957 the first meeting was held in th RCMP Office to
organize
a Trap and Skeet Club in Ocean Falls. Present were Dr. McDaniel, W.
Taylor, G. Graham, C. Smith, J. Trites, Mary Reid, A. Creech, L.
Churchfield and J. Bradley. Membership fees were set at $5.00 with an
annual $3.00 renewal.
The membership grew to 256, but with the cut-back, through automation in
Ocean Falls the present membership is 99.
The first clubhouse was a one room shack that was built for the
construction workers who were working on the dam and was donated by CZ.
Out
of this one-room shack they built a beautiful building of three rooms,
totaling 1300 square feet with its own power plant. Surrounding the
clubhouse is an area of five acres, which has been turned into gardens
and
includes all the facilities required.
Some of the events participated in by the members are a turkey shoot
each
Christmas, the Percy Barber trophy, the Phyllis Smith memorial trophy as
well as special shoots from time to time.

‘BE SAFE AND SURE' Joe Young, Local 312
Joe was preparing to rig a 3 ton chain block to lift an electric motor
weighing 1200 lbs. Joe tested the hanger ring with his hammer and down
it
fell to the floor below. When Joe picked it up it was found to be rusted
right through inside the concrete ceiling. It did not take a minute for
Joe to check, but his use of his safety training averted what could have
been a serious accident.
