WHAT WE GOT After almost two months of negotiation and conciliation,
agreement was reached on July 26 on the basis of a new two year
contract. Some of the items agreed to are:
- Effective July 1, 1968 an 18 cent an hour increase, bringing the base
rate to $3.02; effective July 1, 1969 a further 18 cent an hour
increase.
- four weeks vacation after 15 years, this in addition to present
vacation provisions which for provide for supplementary vacations of 1
week after 10 years, 2 after 15 years, 3 after 20 years, 3 after 25
years, 4 after 30 years, 4 after 35 years, and 5 after 40 years.
- clear cut statement that " Any employee who fails to maintain his
membership in good standing in the union shall be discharged after 7
days written notice to the company by the union of the employee's
failure to maintain his membership in good standing."
- qualification for statutory holidays reduced to 60 days preceding the
holiday
- additional 2 hours call time at straight time rate if a Day Worker who
is called in to perform emergency work is required to perform any work
other than that which necessitated the call in.
