We are still
"discussing" the problems arising from the situation up here where the
top heavy staff people have been doing hourly paid workers' jobs.
Our standing committee has been subjected to many frustrations in
dealing with numerous problems - unfair housing allocations, lack of
certain repairs, safety areas for young children to play in, quality of
food.
Our membership is dropping steadily which results in many empty
apartments and quite a few empty houses (these are to be torn down to
make room for townsite improvements - at least that is what we have been
told.) To compensate for the loss of revenue shorter hours at some
stores and at the local coffee shop have gone into effect.
A Retirement Last week saw the retirement of Brother Harry Crowdis who
has for many years along with Brother Mike Marchuk acted as Local 312's
representative on the hospital visiting committee.
Anniversary Not only is it Canada's 100th birthday, but it is also the
30th anniversary of Local 312 and Local 360. A Labour day committee has
been formed under the chairmanship of Brother Nairn and many plans are
progressive including a big fireworks display to wind up the days
activities.
