There is a lot of doubt as
to whether or not there will be a strike in the paper industry in BC
this summer. As for "Strike Pay", the Pulp, Sulphite Locals will receive
something like $30.00 plus for married members, UPP members will receive
$20.00 per member.
Nice job that Mr. Reg Blackwell is doing with the landscape around the
Crown Theatre, it sure looks good.
It seems the company has failed to notice that Link Lake is a serious
safety hazard in its present condition. I have heard that the drift wood
will be boomed in shortly, but I doubt it will be done in time for the
forth coming Fishing Derby.
July 1966 Page 4 OCEAN FALLS REPORT by Eric Day At the mill as July 1st
approaches, some of our militants have begun the "no contract, no work"
dance. However, the Labour Relations Act, even when the contract year
has expired, forbids a work stoppage until we have complied with all the
conditions of the Act. One of these conditions is the conciliation
officer's report, and we are still waiting for this.
No Dentist After three months without a dentist in Ocean Falls, the
local finally had to protest to the Provincial Minister of Health. The
company say they can't get a dentist to come to Ocean Falls, but I feel
a company of its size could make this position attractive enough.
