NEWS AND VIEWS by Alex Jack, Local 360 For the past year of so the
transfer to Elk Falls of some papermakers from this town has been a
major topic. Many of our members have sunk a great deal of money into
new homes in Campbell River all the while not bothering to apply for
positions elsewhere. In the meantime the company has not been able to
supply these people with any information as to who will move them or
when it will be done.
The Future The best answer the company can give on this topic is that
Ocean Falls will be a modern stream lined town.
On January 27, TV arrived in town, although for only four hours as
repairs were being made. Thank you to all those concerned with making
this happen.
Meals After numerous meetings with management a different approach to
the meals was put into practice on a trial basis. Now it appears that
some people are abusing this new service. I appeal to those people to
stop this abuse immediately.
