August 1966 Page 1 OCEAN FALLS ON TV
I do not know if CZ paid for the
recent TV program "Salute to Ocean Falls" - they sure didn't bust the
piggy bank on the Ocean Falls part of the program. If there is a next
time lets make it a salute to Ocean Falls and not a CZ advertisement. A
program regarding the sporting activities of this town could fill an
hour by itself let alone anything else.
August 1966 Page 2 Burke scholarship goes to Ocean Falls lovely The only
daughter of an Ocean Falls member of the IBPS & PMW has won the John P.
Burke scholarship for the area. She is 18 year old Dorothy Jane Moser,
daughter of Peter Moser who is employed as a heavy duty mechanic with
CZCL in Ocean Falls. The scholarship is worth $500. Miss Moser recently
graduated form Gladstone High School in Vancouver and intends to study
at University of British Columbia.
August 1966 page 5 NEWS & VIEWS by Alex Jack It appears there is no end
to the number of complaints regarding the prices and quality of meat and
groceries sold by the local Hudson's Bay Co. It is surprising that the
"higher ups" of this store fail to recognize the discontent among the
customers and make an effort to keep these same people happy.
Safety Afloat The local management report encourages us all to go
carefully with their botas. I say the biggest hazard is the condition of
the waterways. Ever been up to Link Lake. CZ should clean this up before
publishing anything about safe boating.
Interest While both Local Unions here voted in favor of accepting the
conciliation officers report, the turnout of the membership of both
locals was very disappointing.
August 1966 Page 8 Andy Akkerman Retires Brother Andy Akkerman, Editor
of this paper for the past two years, has retired from this position
effective July 1st. Brother Akkerman was one of the men instrumental in
founding the present "Western Canada Council" and served for years as
Secretary-Treasurer, a post he held until his retirement from CZ in
Ocean Falls.
