June Meeting
The membership rejected the motion to send five delegates to the New
York Convention, the number was amended down to two: Eric Day and Peter
Marshall will be the delegates. The meeting voted to donate $50 to a
local Student Assistant Fund set up by the local school to assist
outstanding students. A motion was passed to purchase a tent for the
local Boy Scouts.
Local Scene
The modernization program for the Mill is beginning to move, and a
Contractor's Crew is due in town mid-July to start building a new
Bunkhouse to house some 160 Contractors, while the plans for the
townsite remain a deep dark secret.
The company will have to declare itself very soon in regard to what
degree of participation they are prepared to enter into in connection
with the building of a new hospital.
The company have indicated that they will tackle the noise problem in
the local Beer Parlour. Indications are that acoustic tiling will be
installed and ventilation and lighting will be improved.
The company have also announced improvements to the Cafeteria. The three
Industrial Catering outfits have completed their survey. Changes include
serving cold items first and hot items last and elimination of the Steam
Table System. Improved ventilation, lighting and remedies for the noise
level will follow.
