OCEAN FALLS REPORT by Peter Marshall
Overtime
The company has sent around a new form to all department heads with
instructions to record all instances where overtime is worked due to
absenteeism of a mate. I guess this is in preparation for the visit of
the Board of Industrial Relations Vice Chairman, Mr. A. Liddle, who is
touring the Mills to investigate overtime conditions.
Safety
A member of the Local 312 Executive resigned as Vice-Chairman of one of
the Mill Safety Committees; he was disgusted with the apparent look of
sincerity he encountered when trying to resolve a problem over unsafe
working conditions.
