OCEAN FALLS REPORT by Peter Marshall
Safety
Seems to be some friction between labour and management regarding
safety: - a member of the Local 312 executive resigned over frustration
with managements lack of concern over a safety issue; - one of the Local
312 representatives to the main Safety Committee meeting in August was
accused by a company official of being there just to complain; - at the
October Main Safety Committee meeting I was accused by a company
official of being at the meeting just to cause trouble.
As a result of the foregoing I have withdrawn from the main Safety
Committee which appears to be nothing more than a show piece.
October Meeting
Voted to send $100 to the Britannia Strike and a $25 donation to the
Labour College of Canada.
Negotiations
Local 312 has requested the services of a Reconciliation Officer to
assist with our Hudson's Bay Contract negotiations, and another meeting
is planned to try and conclude the Johnston Terminals negotiations.
