MAY 1964 PAGE 7 OCEAN FALLS REPORT by Peter Marshall
The March meeting lasted only 55 minutes, one of the shortest on record.
Dues were increased to $4.00 per month. The meeting also voted a further
donation to the Shipyard Workers on strike in Vancouver. The April
regular meeting is cancelled due to the annual contract negotiations.
Local 312 membership voted 87.5% of ballots cast in favor of accepting
the settlement offer, and 73.8% of ballots cast in favour of Job
Evaluation.
I have received several complaints recently that the quality of the food
in the Cafeteria has fallen off.
Rent Increases
$3.00 rent increase on all houses where the rent is presently $25.00 or
over and $2.00 for those below. Also an increase of $3.00 per bed in the
hotel and $1.50 per bed in the Women's Dorm.
Meals in th Cafeteria go up 5 cents on the lowest priced meal and 10
cents on the others. The price of admission to the local Theatre goes up
10 cents. All increases will be applied August 1st.
Shop Steward Training
After two previously unsuccessful attempts to get up here to the
"College of the Pacific" from Seattle, John Montagne of the Research and
Education Department of the Pulp, Sulphite Union finally made it in the
week of April 13th to put on his shop Steward and Officer Training
Classes. I would like to thank Crown Management and the Departmental
Supervisors for making the necessary last minute changes when John's
plane was cancelled for one day due to weather.

Swimming Pool
Why do the swimmers of Ocean Falls have to put up with sub standard
facilities ie. an undersized pool. If not for the champions of Ocean
Falls past, present and future then for the sake of eliminating the over
crowding. A Canada Centennial Project of 1967 ??
