Andy Wood and Thomas Bernard were up from Ocean Falls, Tuesday and informed us that things are humming about the big plant.

A New Town

About two hundred men are now at work in connection with the big mills at Ocean Falls. Four pile drivers operating double shifts are putting down foundations for the new pulp mill now under construction.

Another tug boat has come up and been put in commission. Logging outfits are being put into the woods every day. It is expected that something like twenty million feet of logs will be at the mills by October 1st.

Ocean Falls came into prominence some six years ago. A large saw mill, pulp mill, and a three hundred room hotel was built along with other buildings of all kinds to suit the needs of the undertaking. Financial difficulties overtook the concern and it went into the hands of a receiver.

After lying idle for three years, reorganization has taken place with the result that one of the largest pulp mills on the Pacific will be in operation within the year.

Geo. E. Tobin, superintendent of stores at OF was here during the week and made arrangements for the purchase of two carloads of potatoes. He reported that there are now over 300 men employed at the mills and the camps.

May 27
Dr. W.J. Quinlan, we are glad to relate, has received the appointment of postmaster and customs officer at OF. While we congratulate the doctor on his appointment we like to add that in view of his undoubted ability and faithful services has rendered the Conservative party he deserves the appointment.

The troubled minds of our shipping of potatoes were relieved early Saturday morning last week by the belated arrival of the freighter Prince Albert. It took about 60 tons of potatoes for different destinations namely Ocean Falls, Prince Rupert and Anyox.

The OF Co. is starting two new camps in south Bentinck Arm.

The impression of one who has watched the work at Ocean Falls since its early development stage is that now, more than ever before, it looks like business. The spirit of each and everyone in the place is enthusiasm in the work.

After experiencing considerable difficulty in the filling-in job by the dredge, by which process the harbor is being deepened and the yard space being increased, they have now got it running successfully pumping a continuous stream of mud and gravel about one foot in diameter. The side of the pulp mill toward the waterfront has been removed and the machine shop has been taken down to make room for the new paper mill which will butt up against the present pulp mill and extend seven hundred and fifty feet toward the water front. When the work of remodelling the store is finished Ocean Falls will have one of the largest inland stores in the province and it will be up to date too, with its elevator and refrigerating plant.

June 17
Cecil Lancaster has resigned his position in the office at OF and accepted the appointment from the Methodist Church as lay preacher at OF and vicinity.

At OF Mr. Broughton (provincial constable) found things humming. There is a lot of work to do but some difficulty in getting the number of men necessary. Dr. Quinlan the newly appointed postmaster and custom officer has just returned from Nanaimo where he has been initiated into the mysteries of the duties connected with his office.
