R.E. Nevin superintendent of construction for the OF Co., paid a visit to OF last week. He stated that the OF Pulp & Paper Co. are to expend one and a half million dollars in erecting a paper mill and in other preparations for resuming operations. He also expressed his conviction that when the time came for logging off their holdings in the valley [Bella Cool Valley] a railroad would be built for handling logs. However, he could not say how soon the work would commence.

The many friends of Frank G. Andreae, for a long time engaged at OF will be interested to learn that he is rendering distinguished service in the war. We clip the following from an exchange. Lieut. Frank G. Andreae, the British aviator who is reported in London despatches as having conducted a successful aeroplane attack on German submarines near Antwerp is prominently known in the Northwest. He is a member of a wealthy British family.

Rumour has it that the new OF Co. will resume operations in the near future. If such should prove true it would be of great assisstance to the many new settlers along this part of the coast to be enabled to obtain work during the fall and winter months.

August 21
Messrs. Smaby and Williams of OF were in [to Bella Coola] last week in quest of medical aid for Mr. Williams' child who was sick. Dr. Bavis went with them.

After a close down of the big saw and pulp mills at Ocean Falls for over two years it is now almost certain that there will be a move made to operate in the coming year. Manager Martin with some men are already on the ground to commence work on the dam for the purpose of a larger storage of water with the idea of bringing this up to the tune of two thousand horse power claimed to be required in order to operate these mills. There will also be a large amount of repairs to be done to wharves and new buildings for increasing the output of the pulp mill. Logging camps are likely to be opened early in the spring. It is commonly reported that the combined mills when completed will take care of a million feet of logs per day.

Mr. and Mrs. Mark Smaby with family came up for a holiday and after a few days stay visiting with friends in the valley left on Saturday for their home at Ocean Falls. Mr. Smaby who is looking after the timber limits and camps of the Pacific Limited, made a tour of inspection of the company's holdings while here.

September 18
The OF Co. is busily engaged in construction work at OF. We learn that logging operations will start in the spring. There will be given opportunities to such as may desire to take logging contracts. The company will furnish to the contractor donkey engines if wanted.

November 15
Mark Smaby of OF accompanied by his wife and two children paid friends here a welcome visit last week. Their stay was altogether too short as they left again the following day. Mr. Smaby informs us that here are now 30 men at work doing preliminary work for the large undertaking to be carried on next summer. It is the intention of the company to renew wharves, build another big dam and erect a paper mill and start manufacturing on a large scale.
