The SS Camosun made the first ever call at South Bentinck Arm by a
passenger vessel disembarking 75 passengers who are to be employed at
the several logging camps operated by the OF Co.
March 29
The SS Coquitlam discharged a large consignment of machinery at this
port on Friday last.
The various logging camps operated by the Ocean Falls Company are
expected to be in operation in about one week's time. The company's
several steamers and power boats have been busily engaged in
distributing loggers during last week.
The company have decided to open a large store at South Bentinck Arm in
order to better meet the requirements of their numerous employees. A
wharf will also be constructed.
A large shipment of timber exceeding two million feet will be shipped to
the East next week.
Work on the new dam at the outlet of Link Lake is proceeding apace. The
necessary blasting operations are nearing an end and it is expected that
the concrete foundation will be commenced in two weeks time.
The pulp mill is not at present in operation owing to it having been
found necessary to make some alteration and adjustments to the
machinery. The store houses, however contain a supply sufficient to meet
immediate demand.
The saw mill is at present only working one quarter its full capacity,
there is however still a large supply of lumber on hand.
