Mr. Mark Smaby of the OF Co. visited the town [Bella Coola] on Tuesday after going the rounds of the various camps in the neighbourhood.

Shipments of lumber are still being made from OF.

Bella Bella sawmill will be running soon under the direction of Mr. G.W. Smith of OF. This sawmill has been laying idle for some time.

P. Saunders, time keeper, R. Storey, Camp Boss, and F. McNeil came up on the last Camosun to arrange certain small jobs around the plant. It now looks likely that the camps will be starting up again in the early spring. There are now upwards of ten million feet of logs in booms in Cousins Inlet and every precaution has been taken to safeguard against the loss on any logs by breaking adrift during high winds which prevail at this time of year.

No snow has fallen yet and had the mill been in operation the logging camps would have run without much hindrance up to now.

OCEAN FALLS COMPANY TO RENEW OPERATIONS

Amalgamates With Largest Concerns on Pacific Coast

Three Million Dollars For Development

If the plans of Mr. I. Hamilton Benn of London, England, and Messrs. Mortimer Fleishhacker and Wm. Pierce Johnson of San Francisco, are carried out as at present arranged, it will mean that the huge plant at Ocean Falls will shortly start up again with renewed vigour, and greater work and development in that district will follow.

It is proposed to form an amalgamation of the Powell River Pulp and Paper Co., the Crown Paper Co., of Portland, the Quatsino Sound Pulp Co., and the Ocean Falls Co., thus consolidating the latter company with the three largest pulp and paper properties on the Pacific Coast.

Under the agreement a group of Pacific Coast capitalist agree to guarantee fifty per cent of the bonds of the Ocean Falls Co, in addition to the guarantees on the property and to spend a sum of three million dollars on extending the plant and erecting a paper mill at Ocean Falls.

The proposal had been endorsed at a meeting of the debenture holders of the Ocean Falls Co. recently held at Salisbury House, London, E.C., and Mr. Benn has been despatched to San Francisco with authority to enter into the proposed agreement.

It is confidently expected that early spring will see all the logging camps in the neighbourhood of Ocean Falls in full swing, and it is highly probable that Bella Coola Valley, where the Ocean Falls Co. have a very extensive holdings will be the scene of lively operations.
